Three sure-fire indications that one is in the Highlands:
- Walking down the street and being passed by a large man in a kilt, carrying a Targe (circular wooden shield) and a two-handed Claymore. Actually that wasn't so unusual during tourist season. It was when his mobile phone went off that made me giggle.
- The train from Elgin slows down to walking speed because there's a flock of sheep on the tracks. We herded these sheep for a couple of miles before they found another weak spot in the fence and jumped away.
- It's Saturday evening, and the only establishments in town which are open for business are the pubs. Oh, and a small Internet company.
